I am delighted to be joining the British Sociological Association's Schools Strategy Working Group. There has never been a more important time to be studying sociology. We live in a tumultuous world. Understanding the complex ways in which society functions and how social relationships and structures shape human behaviour, is invaluable to finding solutions to what are often catastrophic issues. Critical sociological analysis, allows us to understand the challenges we face in living together, promotes informed decision making and, above all, encourages empathy and social responsibility. It equips individuals with the tools to engage with, and contribute to, a more just and cohesive society. In the words of Albion Woodbury Small - Sociology was born of the modern ardor to improve society.
